The Legend of the Lost Barrel: In 2000 two winemakers, busy at their tasks, had taken the time to test a unique idea: save the rich “tippings” left in the best barrels of red wine in an attempt to make a complex red blend. The barrel disappeared, lost in the deep shadows of their barrel cellar until it was discovered 8 months later. They were astounded to find that their project had been an outrageous success. Intrigued by their first attempt, they tried again in 2001, this time keep a watchful eye on the barrel. The legend continues with the 2004 vintage. The wine from the lost barrels is the one in your hand. Don’t let it get away!

93 Pts. — 2004 Lost Barrel
John Szabo, Wine Align Ontario Wine Report 2009
Really nicely evolved, wet clay, mature fruit, moving into the blue spectrum, with some volatile notes and floral elements. Great complexity. The palate is still big and firm, but burly tannins are beginning to integrate; alcohol is generous. Finish is long. An impressive wine with abundant power and much appeal. Drink 2010-2016+
4.5 Stars — 2004 Lost Barrel
Christopher Waters, VINES Magazine, July/Aug 2009.
Creekside’s Lost Barrel project sees the winemaking team collect the sediment remaining in all of the barrels used to age red wines from each vintage. These rich “tippings” are preserved in barrel, where they clarify and yield a remarkably concentrated and intense liquid. The 2004 Lost Barrel has just been released after five years in oak. It’s an unbelievable red with amazing texture and complexity — one of the most dramatic Niagara reds ever…
4.5 Stars — 2004 Lost Barrel
Rick Van Sickle, St. Catharines Standard, July 10th 2009.
… I poured this wine in Calgary at a wine judging competition dinner with a main course of Alberta-farmed bison and barley risotto. It couldn’t have been a more perfect match. The earthy, complex nose of black currants, Espresso bean and lavish spice melded beautifully with the bison. And while the nose was nice, on the palate this wine is electrifying. Layers of dark fruit, mellow oak and wild spices all leading to a long, smooth finish. The ultimate in Niagara “wow” wines.
