There was no place like home when it came to the vintage’s best Sauvignon Blanc and the 15 acres comprising our estate plantings did Creekside proud, coming off the vine with intense varietal character and concentration that left little doubt as to its place in the Reserve program.
Selected yeasts, trusted coopers, and altered vinification kinetics introduced additional complexity, but the key to this blend was the ripeness and expressiveness of our vineyard fruit. Both the “Long Row” and “Short Row” estate blocks are represented in this blend, and their unrelenting intensity throughout ferment and ageing in French and Hungarian oak has made them a home-grown favourite.

We had a lot of compliments on last month’s recipe, so we thought we should dig up another comfort food classic, this one comes from a member of the Creekside crew who says it’s his favourite version of the Cajun Classic.

“Very Impressive” — 2007 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
David Lawrason, Winery to Home, April 2010
This powerhouse, barrel aged white took a gold medal at the Ontario Wine Awards. It shows an intense, very complex nose of wood smoke, green cedar forest, juniper, guava, grapefruit. Very impressive. It’s medium-full bodied, fleshy and rich on the palate. Excellent length and focus. Best now to 2012.
4.5 Stars — 2007 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
Rick VanSickle, St. Catharines Standard, February 28, 2010
Creekside really sets the bar for serious Sauvignon Blanc in Niagara. This big ’07 reserve shows intense tropical/grapefruit/ gooseberry notes on the nose with a sprinkling of vanilla and oak. Not your typical and grassy Sauvignon Blanc, it is full bodied and vibrant with added oak-kissed spice. This also won at Cuvee, for best Sauvignon Blanc.
