    2007 Riesling Icewine
    Appellation: VQA Niagara Peninsula
    Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling
    Bottled: 37 cases
Drinkability: Drink or Hold [as of Dec. 2008]

It was a rude awakening for these Riesling grapes to find themselves cold and alone in the middle of a brutal Canadian winter. Rather than resigning themselves to an ignoble fate, their inherent dignity inspired them to look inward, spending months in quiet, frozen contemplation while battling both the elements and feelings of abandonment. Their perseverance was rewarded when they were picked in January 2008 and restored to their former glory through extensive fermentation and aging therapy in an old French oak cask. Overcoming all odds, they now proudly display their premium nature, having developed an astounding sense-of-self reflected in the focus, concentration, and elegance of the resulting wine.

    4.5 Stars — 2007 Riesling Icewine

    Rod Phillips, Winepointer, Dec 2008

This is a young Icewine that delivers vibrant flavours with the sweetness you buy Icewine to get. But it’s very nicely cut by the acidity here—not only the sweetness but the viscosity that can sometimes make Icewine difficult. The success of Icewine is often to be found as much in the texture as the flavour, and this one has found a superior balance

“Excellent length” — 2007 Riesling Icewine

David Lawrason, Winery to Home, Nov 2008.

This is showing deep bright gold-yellow colour, likely due to ageing in oak barrels, which is rare for Riesling Icewine. Lovely , gentle nose of creme brulee, marmalade and oak spice with pineapple-guava fruit. It’s sweet, brisk and blunt with good acidity and excellent length. Excellent length.
