Salutations wine fans – big news this month as the 2008 Cuvee wine awards were announced this weekend exceeding our expectations. Every wine entered (maximum 3 per winery) won best in its category.

Creekside won Best Limited Edition Red Wine for our 2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Best Meritage for the Reserve Meritage 2004, and Best Shiraz/Syrah for Broken Press Shiraz 2005.
Winemaker Rob Power: “Over the last five years, we’ve had a good run at Cuvée, having won in at least one major category every year. But this year, the second time at Fallsview Casino’s Grand Ballroom, in a beautiful setting, we’ve really hit our stride”, said Rob Power. “Of course Craig and I also need to thank and praise our winemaking staff, whom have shown intense passion in creating superb wines.”

Vice President Production/Winemaker Craig McDonald: “This year we put all reds into the competition. We’ve always had a good feeling about our reds and sure enough, bingo!”

Cuvée is the annual awards competition for the Ontario wine industry, commonly referred to as the ‘Oscars’ for Ontario Wines. Over 50 wineries from Ontario entered the competition with their 3 best wines, making Cuvée 2008 the most competitive event in its 20 year history. The competition, judged by an independent panel of experts and Ontario Winemakers is a ‘blind’ tasting of the province’s best VQA wines. The competition is seen by media as a tribute to the province’s winemakers and a celebration of their efforts in making world class VQA wine. These wines are now available online or at the winery retail store. As we’ve said before, they will not last long so be sure to pick them up soon or face crushing disappointment.
