Now Available: 2007 Laura Red
All right all you lovely people that have been calling and emailing about this wine’s release: the time is now! The spectacular 2007 vintage of Laura Red is now available at the winery and online. For the first time we have created a full Bordeaux blend of 39.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 0.5% Petit Verdot. Consensus at the winery is this is likely the best vintage produced in the wine’s long history.
The 2007 has also received top placement at two competitions, winning Double Gold at the recent All Canadian Wine Championships and receiving 1st Place at the Royal Winter Fair Wine Competition. This is also the first vintage of our flagship red to be bottled under screw cap.
Winemaker’s Notes:
The full Bordeaux blend of 39.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 0.5% Petit Verdot. Grapes were harvested from multiple small vineyard blocks throughout Niagara at an average 22.5° brix. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks. The individual vineyard components were put in predominantly French oak barrels (56% new wood) and aged for an average of 22 months. Blending trials were conducted throughout August of 2009 with the final blend Bottled September 4th 2009.
An aromatic nose of ripe red berry, cedar, vanilla and a touch of smoke. The palate has layers of rich, generous fruit framed by oak notes of clove, mocha, spice, and cedar. Well structured with restrained body and balancing acidity. Extremely tasty now but will be at its best 2012 – 2014.
