The fruit, and resulting wine, showed excellent focus, expressing the savoury spice and black pepper profile framed by rich red fruit and firm tannin that form the core of many Creekside Shiraz bottlings. An intriguing mix of elegant and robust, the 2008 is drinking very well now in its youth but displays the vintage’s bright acidity and intense structure, making it a prime candidate for spending 3-4 years in the cellar to evolve further depth and complexity.

Reviews

“…delivers impressive varietal character, including that trademark French note of white pepper. Good effort.” Score 88/100, Beppi Crosariol, Globe and Mail, Friday September 16th, 2010.

“… a lot of fans of this winery consider Shiraz (Syrah) as its signature grape. The portfolio is deep in Shiraz in myriad styles. This is the entry-level version from a not so hot vintage. Power thinks Shiraz in Niagara as the potential to be the “go-to” red in our climate because he can make a decent wine out of it vintage to vintage. This one is medium-bodied with lots of jazzy wild berry, plum fruits and pepper spice. It’s juicy and vibrant on the palate for back porch sipping.” Score: 86, Rick VanSickle, Wines In Niagara, June 2, 2011

“Well paced, well priced and well… delicious. Lifted aromas of spice, berry fruit and cherry waft freely from this mid-weight nicely balanced Shiraz. There’s a delectable river of tangy cherry, red currant and sweet ripe bramble berry on the palate. It’s medium bodied with good mouth feel and a lengthy lip-smacking aftertaste. The price-quality balance tips well in your favour.” Score: 4 stars out of 5, Vic Harradine, Winecurrent.com
