2012 Lost Barrel
2012 Lost Barrel
A wine nearly eight years in the making, Lost Barrel is the definition of patience and precision. Crafted from the lees and “tippings” of our finest red barrels, this blend—Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and a touch of Viognier—was aged for 7.5 years in French oak before being deemed ready for release. The result is a sophisticated, deeply concentrated wine that captures the very best of Niagara’s hot, dry 2012 vintage.
On the nose, expect aromas of potpourri, plum, fig, red fruit, and earthy hints of mushroom, graphite, forest floor, and sandalwood. The palate is layered with black cherry, raspberry, baking spice, and impressive depth—elegant at first sip, structured through the mid-palate, and finishing with fine tannins and lasting complexity.

Lees and “tippings” are collected from all of our top end red barrels and then combined to age further in their own barrels. This wine was aged for a total of 7.5 years before we felt it was ready to bottle. It’s incredibly sophisticated and concentrated – a truly special wine. Wonderfully aromatic nose of potpourri, plum, red fruits and fig with earthy notes of mushrooms, graphite, forest floor and sandalwood. The palate is black cherry and raspberry with baking spice and lots of depth. Elegant upfront, with nice structure and fine tannins on the finish.
2012 was a hot, dry vintage: perfect for big, bold reds like this one.
