2012 UNBroken Press Syrah
2012 UNBroken Press Syrah
From one of Niagara’s finest vintages, this bold Syrah is the brawnier, more powerful sibling of our classic Broken Press. The 2012 growing season brought California-like sunshine, hot dry days, and a near-perfect fall—conditions that yielded record ripeness and remarkable depth of flavour.
In the glass, it shows black currant, raspberry, grilled meats, kirsch, pepper, and a lifted floral note. Full-bodied and weighty, the palate layers wild fruit, bramble, and rousing spice with firm tannins and delicate acidity—built for both power and finesse. With careful cellaring, it will continue to evolve beautifully.

100% Syrah with a later harvest date of October 9th from Queenston Road Vineyard in St. David’s Bench vineyard. The Syrah grapes were left to cold soak on the skins for two days after crushing. Fermented took place in tank and one tonne bins before going into barrel. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel where the wine aged for 20 months. The final blend was decided upon and yielded 8 barrels, 7 French 1 American oak with 2 barrels in the mix being new wood. The wine was racked and bottled September 5th, 2014.
The 2012 growing season felt like it had been imported up from California. An extremely early start to the vintage began in April followed by consistently arid and extremely high temperatures through spring and summer. Vines experienced full sun with drought conditions most of the summer. The crucial fall season was nearly perfect with moderate rainfall, warm days and cool nights. Grapes were harvested extremely early in the season with some record breaking sugar levels in some cases. Possibly one of the best vintages ever in Niagara for red wines and also a surprisingly good year for fresh, aromatic whites.
The brawnier, bolder brother of our Broken Press Syrah, this full-bodied wine has a nose of black currant, raspberry, grilled meats, kirsch, pepper and a lifted floral note.
