2016 Broken Press Syrah
2016 Broken Press Syrah
Broken Press is Creekside’s flagship Syrah—crafted only when the vintage delivers the intensity and elegance it deserves. In hot, dry 2016, ripeness came early, and from Labour Day onward we knew this would be a standout year. Picked at just the right moment to balance power with finesse, the 2016 vintage showcases everything that makes Broken Press a Niagara benchmark.
The nose bursts with vivid berry fruit, lifted pink peppercorn, and cinnamon bark. On the palate, rich fruit is framed by firm structure and focused acidity, promising long life and graceful evolution. Cellar for 10–15 years to experience its full potential—or enjoy now for its youthful intensity.

Quite possibly our most intense vintages of Syrah to date. Bursting with bright berry fruit on the nose, hints of vivacious pink peppercorn and cinnamon bark, this Syrah screams out of the glass. Backed-up with a firm structure and focused acid; you would be wise to lay this bottle down for the next 10-15 years and you will be rewarded for your patience.
Broken Press is one of Creekside’s most revered bottlings. Because of that reputation, we are very protective of our flagship product line, and aren’t afraid to declassify and skip a vintage if the wine doesn’t have the stuffing. Hot and dry 2016, on the other hand, was a no-doubter from Labour Day onwards, as both flavour and phenolic ripeness came around very early in the game. We resisted the temptation to go for dizzying sugar (and alcohol) levels, picked when we liked what we tasted, and managed to maintain the delicate fruit and elegant frame that Broken Press is renowned for
Shanghai stir-fried pork with cabbage, and sticky rice.
